Unique Weekly Lessons
We believe that children and teens progress more quickly with instrumental music if they enjoy their lessons and learn using music they truly love. While music theory is important, rather than begin with scales and nursery songs, we begin by teaching students how to play a song they enjoy. Within just a few lessons they will be able to play a favorite tune by their favorite artists. We can teach using virtually any genre your child enjoys, including rock, pop, country, blues, bluegrass, classical and more.
You’ll find that most Laguna Hills piano lessons last just 30 to 45 minutes per week. However, at Los Rios Rock School, each student enjoys a full weekly 60-minute private lesson with one of our outstanding instructors. During the lesson, we work on technique, of course, but we also work on performance skills and often enjoy jam sessions in one of our professional music studios, which are stocked with all of the best new and vintage gear. Students also have the option of splitting a lesson into two parts and spending half of their lesson honing their piano skills and the other working on another instrument, such as guitar, drums, saxophone or perhaps vocal lessons.
Performance Opportunities
At Los Rios Rock School, your monthly tuition includes more than just Laguna Hills piano lessons. Students also are invited to participate in our Live Program, which provides students with plenty of opportunities to show off their new piano skills. We begin by organizing students into groups based upon ability. The groups meet to create set lists for upcoming shows and then for weekly practice sessions. Several times during the year, each group performs at top local venues, such as the Coach House or the House of Blues.
During the concerts, Los Rios Rock School students provide all of the instrumentation and vocals, although an instructor occasionally hits the stage to jam with the students. Some concerts feature a mix of songs and genres, including original songs written by our students, while some concerts feature a special theme. Our most advanced students can audition for our Classic Album series, concerts where a classic album is performed in its entirety. In the past, the albums have included The Beatles’ Abbey Road, Queen’s A Day at the Races, and Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.
Building Friendships
Another aspect that sets us apart from other piano lessons in Laguna Hills, are the social opportunities students discover at Los Rios Rock School. Through our Live Program, students forge strong friendships and our school becomes a place where kids and teens enjoy hanging out. We find that many students will arrive early for lessons and stay late just to enjoy extra time with the friends that they have made. Our goal has always been to create a positive, inclusive environment where students feel welcome.
Extra Offerings
While our piano lessons for Laguna Hills kids and teens are second to none, we have more to offer our students. In addition to the weekly lessons and rock performances, we have several additional classes, workshops and special events to consider. We offer songwriting and production classes and workshops where students can learn to write, record and produce their own original music. Our facility includes two professional recording studios, one of which was designed by a Grammy Award-winning producer.
As an accredited music school, we also offer an AP Music Theory class. This course, taught by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition, will provide students with all of the information they need for the rigorous AP Music Theory exam.
We also offer several Summer Rock Camps each year. We offer a Beginner & Intermediate camp as well as a special camp for our more advanced students. These week-long camps culminate with a live performance on our private stage, The Lobby.
