Famed ukulele virtuoso Jake Shimabukuro once said, “if everyone played the ukulele, the world would be a better place.” We wholeheartedly agree, and we also believe that a ukulele is something that every can learn to play and enjoy, so if you’ve been searching for Capistrano Beach ukulele lessons, the instructors at Los Rios Rock School can help.
Did you know that many popular musicians started out by learning how to play ukulele? Musicians such as Dick Dale, Don Henley, Tracy Chapman and Bob Seger all picked up a ukulele before they learned another instrument.
The ukulele can be an excellent first instrument to learn – it’s lightweight, it’s easy to handle and it’s fairly easy to learn. It even makes for an easier transition to guitar, should your child or teen decide to learn acoustic, electric or bass guitar in the future.
At Los Rios Rock School, we offer ukulele lessons for Capistrano Beach children and teenagers beginning at any level. Whether you’ve never strummed a ukulele before or might have had some previous experience, we can help you progress from any level.
The Lessons
Your monthly tuition includes a weekly, private 60-minute lesson, and our expert instructors teach students using music they love. Whether your child is a fan of Hawaiian music or loves rock, country, pop, blues or something else, we can teach it. Within just a lesson or two, your child or teen will be able to play a favorite song, and we find that this song-based teaching method boosts enthusiasm and that students are far more likely to practice if they can practice using their favorite music.
Additionally, if your child wishes to learn ukulele and another instrument, we can split the lesson into two sections. A student might spend half of their lesson with the ukulele and the other half with vocal instruction, clarinet, drums or something else. In addition to Capistrano Beach ukulele lessons, we offer lessons for all types of guitars, as well as voice lessons, drum lessons, piano lessons and more.
Live Performances
Of course, learning how to play is only part of the fun. We also get kids up on stage as quickly as possible through our Live Program. For this program, which is included in the monthly tuition, students are organized into groups based upon ability. These groups meet for weekly jam sessions, where they create set lists for upcoming shows and practice these tunes.
Not only is working together in a band setting a blast, it also improves musical competency. When you combine private lessons with our band classes, students progress rapidly, soon becoming proficient musicians.
We hold several rock shows throughout the year, and Los Rios students get to play at the same venues as many top professional artists, including the Coach House, the House of Blues, the Fonda Theatre and more. Some shows include a mix of styles and genres, while other shows focus on a special theme. Students provide all of the vocals and instrumentation for these shows, and also can learn how to set up for the shows, just like a professional.
Additional Offerings
While your child or teen might start out with Capistrano Beach ukulele lessons, students have the opportunity to sign up for other classes, as well. For our budding songwriters, we offer both songwriting and production workshops and classes. Our state-of-the-art facility includes two professional-level recording studios, one of which was designed by a Grammy-winning producer.
For our advanced students, we offer an AP Music Theory class, which is led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition. This class will prepare students for the rigors of the AP Music Theory exam.
We also offer several weeks of summer camps. We have camps for beginning and intermediate students, as well as one camp for our advanced students. These week-long camps are packed with fun and culminate with a live concert on our private stage, The Lobby.
