There are few instruments that produce a melody as soothing as the ukulele, and if you’ve got a child or teenager longing to play this instrument, Los Rios Rock School offers ukulele lessons for Laguna Beach kids and teens and our program is unlike any other music school in Orange County.
Our Lessons
At Los Rios Rock School we provide private Laguna Beach ukulele lessons and a whole lot more. Your monthly tuition includes a weekly, private 60-minute lesson with an experienced instructor. During this weekly lesson, we teach students using music that they truly love and have them playing a favorite song in its entirety in just a few lessons. We find that students learn faster and are more consistent with practice times if they get to play their favorite tunes.
Our instructors can teach using virtually any genre of music, including rock, pop, country, folk, swing, R&B, blues and, of course, Hawaiian. Additionally, our instructors are qualified to teach many other instruments, including all types of guitar, drums, piano & keyboards, saxophone and more, as well as providing vocal instruction. If your child wants to learn more than ukulele, they are welcome to split their lesson and spend half of the lesson with ukulele, and the other half learning piano, drums, vocals, clarinet or whatever else they love.
Live Performances
Of course, learning the ukulele is a lot more fun when you get to show off those skills from time to time. Your monthly tuition also includes participation in our Live Program, which gets students up on stage several times each year for live rock concerts.
We organize the students into groups, based upon ability, and the groups create set lists for upcoming shows and practice during weekly jam sessions. Working in a band setting isn’t just a great experience, it also accelerates student progress in general and further increases enthusiasm for practicing.
And our live shows aren’t just little recitals, these are amazing rock concerts at some of Southern California’s top music venues, including the House of Blues, the Coach House, the Fonda Theatre and more.
Our facility is stocked with the best new and vintage gear, and students can perform using the same gear that their musical heroes use. Additionally, they can help set up for the shows, providing them with a full professional-level musical experience.
Some of our shows feature songs from a range of artists and genres (including original songs composed by Los Rios Rock School students) and some shows feature a unique theme. For our advanced students, they also have the opportunity to audition for our Classic Album Series. For these concerts, a classic album is played in its entirety. In the past, we’ve covered Led Zeppelin, the Beatles, Queen, Fleetwood Mac and more.
Additional Programs
If you have a budding songwriter or producer on your hands, we can provide much more than just Laguna Beach ukulele lessons. Our facility includes two professional-level recording studios, one of which was designed by a Grammy Award-winning producer. Students can learn how to write, record and produce their own original songs, and we’ve helped several of our student bands record their first albums.
For our advanced music students, we also offer an AP Music Theory class led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition. This course will prepare students for the difficult AP Music Theory exam.
Our Summer Rock Camps are another fun option for students and non-students alike. We host several camps for beginning and intermediate musicians and one camp for our advanced musicians. Campers spend the week enjoying jam sessions, music workshops and preparing for a live rock show which is held on the last day of camp on our private stage, The Lobby.
