Learning should be fun and should inspire you to continue to seek knowledge. Unfortunately, students often start music lessons with a great deal of enthusiasm and quickly become bored. It doesn’t have to be this way, and at Los Rios Rock School we offer engaging and exciting ukulele lessons for Rancho Santa Margarita kids and teens.

Not only do our lessons inspire kids to practice and progress, we offer a musical experience that you won’t find anywhere else. Here’s a quick look at our program and our ukulele lessons.

The Weekly Lessons

With your monthly tuition, your child or teen will enjoy a weekly, private 60-minute ukulele lesson with one of our expert instructors. We don’t simply provide a 30-minute or even 45-minute weekly lesson like many other music schools because we believe that a one-hour lesson truly allows us the time we need to help students progress as quickly as possible.

We teach using a performance-based approach that allows students to quickly learn how to play their favorite tunes. Whether you have a would-be Eddie Vedder or a potential Israel Kamakawiwo’ole on your hands, we’ll teach them the fundamentals using music that they truly love. We can teach using any genre of music that your child loves, including (but not limited to) rock, pop, funk, blues, R&B, country, folk, and, of course, Hawaiian.

In just a lesson or two, your child will be able to play an entire song on the ukulele, and we find that when kids and teenagers can play their favorite music, they are more likely to practice and gain proficiency much more quickly. The ukulele can be an excellent first instrument to learn because it’s fairly simple, and you easily can transition into guitar lessons.

In addition to Rancho Santa Margarita ukulele lessons, we can teach students how to play any type of guitar as well as drums, piano & keyboards, saxophone, clarinet and more. We also offer vocal instruction, and each student has the opportunity to split their lessons into two sections. For instance, you might spend 30 minutes learning ukulele skills and the other 30 minutes working on drums, piano or vocal instruction.

The Live Program

But the weekly lessons aren’t the only item included in your monthly tuition. Our goal is to provide plenty of opportunities for students to perform, and we get kids up on stage as quickly as possible. The students perform several times throughout the year at some of Southern California’s top venues, including the Coach House, the House of Blues, the Fonda Theatre and more.

For our Live Program, we organize students into groups, based upon ability. In these groups, the students plan out set lists for upcoming shows and practice together during weekly jam sessions. Not only do the live performances boost confidence, students learn how to play instruments together in a band setting, which also boosts their skill level.

Our facility is stocked with the best new and vintage gear, and the students can use it all. Students can use play using the same instruments as their musical heroes, and even learn how to set up for live rock shows. Many of our students form their own independent bands and the experience they gain at Los Rios Rock School make it easy for them to prepare, set up and perform at a professional level.

Additional Offerings

In addition to the weekly lessons and Live Program, we have a few other unique class options. We offer songwriting and production classes for our budding songwriters (or budding producers), and our facility includes two state-of-the-art production studios, one of which was designed by a Grammy-winning producer.

For our advanced students, we offer an AP Music Theory class, which is led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition. This course will prepare students for the rigorous AP Music Theory exam.

We also host several summer rock camps, and both students and those new to Los Rios Rock School are welcome to attend. Our weekly camps include jam sessions, songwriting workshops, games and much more, and each week culminates with a live performance on our private stage, The Lobby.
