Irvine Ukulele Lessons For Kids & Teenagers

Music lessons, in general, are associated with better school performance and higher tests scores, not to mention reducing stress and anxiety. If you’re searching for Irvine ukulele lessons, Los Rios Rock School offers engaging and comprehensive ukulele lessons for kids and teenagers.

Quality Lessons

At Los Rios Rock School, your tuition includes a weekly private lesson with an experienced ukulele instructor. Our lessons aren’t your typical 30-minute lessons, or even 45-minute lessons. We provide a full hour of instruction each week, teaching proper technique, chords, rhythm and much more.

While our lessons are comprehensive, our goal is to make every lesson fun. To that end, we teach with a performance-based and song-based approach. We teach using songs the students actually love, which increases enthusiasm for lessons and for practicing.

Who wouldn’t rather practice the ukulele using songs by Grace VanderWaal, Eddie Vedder or Vance Joy than using silly nursery songs like “Mary Had A Little Lamb?” If it’s fun, students want to play and if they practice and play, their progress will be much faster. It’s that simple.

We can teach using whatever genre of music your child loves, including rock, pop, country, folk, Hawaiian, blues and much more. Additionally, students are welcome to split their lesson in two and spend half of the lesson learning ukulele skills and rest on something else.

In addition to ukulele lessons, we can teach almost any rock instrument, including piano, keyboards, drums, saxophone and all types of guitars. We also provide quality vocal instruction, for students that want to play and sing. But, of course, that’s just the tip of the iceberg . . .

Live Concerts

After a few lessons, it’s time to transform your child or teen from a solo musician to a rock star. As part of our Live Program, students perform authentic rock shows at top local venues such as the Coach House, the House of Blues, the Fonda Theatre and more.

Your monthly tuition includes participation in this innovative program. We organize the students into groups, based upon ability level, and they engage in weekly jam sessions. Working with other musicians in a group setting greatly accelerates musical growth, not mention that it’s just plain fun.

During these sessions, students will create set lists for upcoming shows, practice songs and learn performance skills. Some concerts will feature a wide variety of musical styles while others focus on a special theme.

For instance, our most advanced students can audition for the Classic Album Series. During each of these concerts, students perform an entire classic album. The students have covered everything from The Beatles’ Abbey Road to Queen’s A Day at The Races, as well as albums by Van Halen, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac and the Beach Boys.

Songwriting & Production Classes

If you child or teenager longs to write and record their own original music we can facilitate this dream through our Artist Program. Helping our students create original music is a huge part of our curriculum.

Our experienced instructors have all participated in working bands that have produced albums, making them excellent mentors for our young musicians. Our facility boasts two professional recording studios, one of which was designed by Grammy Award-winning producer Phil Allen, who has engineered music for Adele, P!nk and many others.

Additionally, we’ve stock the rock school with the finest new and vintage gear. We use the same gear as professional musicians, so the students can practice and perform using the same gear as their favorite artists.

AP Music Theory

We are an accredited music school and offer an AP Music Theory for our older and more advanced students. This course, led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition, prepares students for the difficult AP Music Theory exam and is equivalent to a first-year college class. During the class, students will explore topics such as part-writing, analysis, diction and sight-singing.
