When you think about Orange County trumpet lessons, enrolling at a rock school might not seem like an ideal match. But at Los Rios Rock School we have a great appreciation for the trumpet and its place in rock history.
If you love classic rock then you know that the trumpet has been an essential instrument in many classic tunes. What would Chicago’s “Saturday in the Park” be without the brass? Or “All You Need Is Love,” by The Beatles? For kids and teens that love the trumpet, we offer amazing Orange County trumpet lessons, but our program offers more than a basic lesson.
Unique & Engaging Lessons
Your monthly tuition includes a private, weekly lesson with an experienced instructor. But our trumpet lessons are just the usual 30 or 45-minute lessons, we spend a full hour each with our students, believing that this amount of time is essential for optimum progress.
Our lessons are anything but boring as we teach using a performance-based method that allows students to learn quickly and within just a few lessons, they will be able to play a favorite song in its entirety.
Instructors teach using any genre of music that your child loves, including rock, pop, jazz, R&B, country or whatever they prefer. When students learn using music that they choose, they are far more likely to practice, and much more likely to stick with an instrument and become proficient.
Additionally, if your child or teenager wishes to learn an additional instrument or wants vocal instruction, we can split their lesson into two sections. We can spend half of the time working on trumpet and the other half on guitar, drums, vocals, piano, clarinet or whatever a student wishes to learn.
Live Performances
Of course, what would be the fun of taking all of those Orange County trumpet lessons if you didn’t get to show off your skills? We provide multiple opportunities for students to perform, and our rock shows are held at some of Southern California’s top venues include the House of Blues, the Coach House and the Fonda Theatre.
To prepare for upcoming concerts, we divide up the students into groups, based upon their current ability levels. These groups meet for weekly jam sessions to plan out set lists and practice tunes for upcoming shows. This might include music from many genres or perhaps a specific theme. We let the students guide the process and allow them to select songs meaningful to them, and this often includes an original song or two composed by one of our students.
In addition to our large rock shows, the students have created amazing original Christmas and Halloween concerts. Our advanced musicians also can audition for our Classic Album Series concerts. For these shows, a famed classic rock album is played in its entirety, such as The Beatles’ Abbey Road, Queen’s A Day at the Races or The Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds.
Songwriting & Production
While your child might initially be interested only in Orange County trumpet lessons, over time learning how to write songs and produce them might be appealing, and we can help. All of our instructors are in working bands that have produced albums, and our facility includes two state-of-the-art professional recording studios.
We have helped several student bands produce their first albums, and our production and songwriting classes and workshops are the first step toward that goal. Our facility also is stocked with the best vintage and new gear, from drums to amps to guitars and beyond. The students can use all of this equipment, playing and performing using the same gear as their musical idols.
AP Music Theory
We are an accredited music school and, as such, we offer an AP Music Theory for our older, more advanced students. This class is taught by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition, and will prepare students for the AP Music Theory exam.
Summer Camps
Every summer, we host several Summer Rock Camps. These week-long camps include a wide range of activities and each camp week ends with a rock show on our private stage, The Lobby. We have several camps for beginning and intermediate students and one camp especially for our advanced musicians.
