You might not equate “trumpet lessons” and “rock school,” but over the years, the trumpet has been an essential component in many classic rock songs. Take a minute to listen to The Temptations’ “Papa Was A Rolling Stone,” The Beatles’ “Penny Lane,” or Chicago’s “Saturday in the Park,” just to name a few.
Our Trumpet Lessons
The trumpet can be a bit tricky to learn at first, but our expert instructors make it easy. Our San Juan Capistrano trumpet lessons are taught using a unique performance-based and song-based approach. This means we get students quickly playing complete songs in just a couple of lessons.
We aren’t just talking about simple nursery songs like “Mary Had A Little Lamb,” either. We use music that the students truly love. Whether your child loves classic rock, pop, R&B or longs to play jazz tunes from Louis Armstrong or Miles Davis, we can use whatever genres your child or teenager prefers. When students learn using music they love, this increases enthusiasm for practicing and helps them progress more quickly.
Of course, if your child or teen has been playing trumpet for some time, we can help them progress at any stage, whether they have zero experience or are an advanced musician or somewhere in between.
Your monthly tuition includes a weekly, private, 60-minute lesson with an experienced instructor. Students can spend the entire hour honing those trumpet skills or split their lesson to learn an additional instrument. We can teach virtually any instrument, including all types of guitar, piano & keyboards, drums, clarinet and more. We also offer vocal instruction, if your child loves to sing.
The Live Program
In addition to San Juan Capistrano trumpet lessons, our monthly tuition also includes participation in our unique Live Program which puts our young musicians up on stage for live rock shows several times throughout the year. Los Rios Rock School students perform at some of Southern California’s top venues including the House of Blues, the Fonda Theatre and the Coach House.
For this program, we organize the students in groups, based upon ability. Student groups meet for weekly jam sessions where they create set lists for upcoming shows, practice playing together as a band, and work on performance skills.
Playing in a live rock show is an amazing experience for our students. Not only does working together as a band improve instrumentation skills and accelerate progress, the students have a blast and form lasting friendships with their bandmates.
Some of our shows feature a range of songs from many genres, including original songs composed by Los Rios Rock School students. Our students also perform in shows with special themes, such as our original Halloween and Christmas concerts.
Advanced students can try out for our Classic Album Series. For these concerts, we perform a classic album in its entirety. So far, we covered The Beatles’ Abbey Road, Queen’s A Day at the Races, Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds as well as classic albums from Van Halen and Led Zeppelin.
Additional Classes & Offerings
While you might first come to us for trumpet lessons in San Juan Capistrano, Los Rios Rock School offers much more for its students. For instance, we offer songwriting and production classes for our budding songwriters and producers.
All of our instructors have been in or currently perform in working bands that have produced albums. Additionally, our state-of-the-art facility includes two professional recording studios, one of which was designed by a Grammy Award-winning producer.
We use the same production equipment the pros use, and our facility is stocked with the best new and vintage gear, and the students can use it all. They can play the same instruments that their heroes play, and learn to write and record their own original music.
Los Rios Rock School is an accredited music school and we offer our advanced high-school students the opportunity to take an AP Music Theory course. This class is led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition and will prepare students for the rigors of the AP Music Theory exam.
When the school year comes to a close, Los Rios Rock School goes into high gear with our Summer Rock Camps. We offer several camps for beginning and intermediate students, as well as one camp for advanced musicians. These week-long camps include a host of fun activities, and each week concludes with a live rock show on our private stage, The Lobby.
