There are few instruments with a more soothing and peaceful sound than the ukulele, and if you have a child that longs to strum some island tunes, we can help. At Los Rios Rock School, we offer San Juan Capistrano ukulele instruments for kids and teens, and our music program is quite unique.
Our Classes
At Los Rios Rock School, we do things a little differently than a traditional music school. We provide students with song-based and performance-based lessons that will have them strumming away to songs they love in no time at all. After just a few San Juan Capistrano ukulele lessons, your child or teen will be able to play a song they truly enjoy.
Our instructors teach using songs from genres and artists that the students choose, and this increases enthusiasm, especially for practicing, which often can be seen more as a chore than an engaging activity. But when you’re playing your favorite tunes, practicing is fun and you learn much more quickly.
Your tuition includes a weekly, private 60-minute lesson with one of our experienced instructors. During this lesson, we will learn new skills, but we also sometimes head to one our fully stocked rehearsal rooms and enjoy a jam session where the instructor plays an instrument to accompany the student.
We also allow students to split their lesson into two parts. So, in addition to ukulele lessons in San Juan Capistrano, you also could learn any other type of guitar as well as drums, piano, keyboards, trumpet and so on. We also offer vocal instruction, so you could spend part of your time with the ukulele and part improving your vocal skills.
Our Live Program
Once a student has spent a few weeks honing those ukulele skills, they can show them off with our Live Program. Your monthly tuition includes your weekly lesson as well as participation in this program. We divide the students up into groups, based upon ability, and these groups meet every week for jam sessions. During these sessions, they will create set lists, practice these songs and then perform them during live rock concerts.
At Los Rios Rock School, we provide our students with an authentic rock experience, and our concerts are held at some of Southern California’s top music venues. This includes the House of Blues, the Coach House, Stillwater and the Fonda Theatre. The kids perform all of the material, and concerts often include original songs written by rock school students.
Some concerts include a mix of genres and artists, while others include a special theme. For instance, the students create and perform original rock shows for Halloween and Christmas. We also offer advanced students the opportunity to audition for our Classic Rock Series concerts. In this series, students perform a classic rock album in its entirety. In the past, these albums have included Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours, The Beatles’ Abbey Road, Queen’s A Day at the Races and Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Additional Options
In addition to San Juan Capistrano ukulele lessons and our Live Program, we also offer several other classes. This includes songwriting classes and workshops, as well as production classes. Our facility includes two professional recording studios, and we’ve helped many of our students produce and record their own original songs and albums.
We also are an accredited music school and for our most advanced students, we offer an AP Music Theory class, which is led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition. This class prepares our students for the rigorous AP Music Theory exam, which is taken in the spring.
