Ryan Kalama is a dynamic singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, recording artist, freestyle rapper, and educator with a lifelong passion for music and performance. Since making his stage debut at just six years old, Ryan has been captivating audiences with his unique blend of talent, creativity, and heart.
Alongside his brother Kai, Ryan carries on a rich family legacy of music and performance as one half of the Kalama Brothers. Together, they’ve released two albums—Keau and Angels and Outlaws—both available on all major streaming platforms. They’ve shared the stage with icons of Hawaiian music and have been featured on national television, including appearances on NBC and PBS. Ryan’s musical path was deeply influenced by mentorship under the legendary Uncle Willie K.
With more than 20 years of experience as an educator, Ryan has inspired creativity and self-expression in children and families through his work at Gymboree Play & Music, local preschools, and COPA (Capistrano Observatory for the Performing Arts). His ability to connect with audiences of all ages makes him a versatile and engaging teacher.
Ryan is equally comfortable writing and performing in a variety of genres, including Rock, Pop, R&B, Reggae, Hawaiian, and Hip-Hop. Some of his favorite artists include The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Who, The Clash, Bob Marley, Superdrag, Kings of Leon, My Morning Jacket, Daft Punk, and Eminem.
As a producer and content creator, Ryan contributed to the children’s show Nalu’s Wave and has composed music for short films and podcasts with his brother Kai.
A big fan of Star Wars, audiobooks, and podcasts, Ryan also enjoys running and spending time with his family. He lives in San Clemente with his wife and two sons. His mission is to spread messages of peace, love, and aloha—and to help others embrace their own creative voices at Los Rios Rock School.
