Who doesn’t love the soothing sounds of the ukulele? If your child or teen has ever expressed a wish of learning how to play this iconic instrument, the team at Los Rios Rock School can help. We offer fun and engaging ukulele lessons for Aliso Viejo kids and teens, as well as an authentic rock experience.
Performance-Based Ukulele Lessons
At Los Rios Rock School, it’s our goal to get students playing their favorite tunes as soon as possible. Our performance-based teaching style makes it easy for kids and teens to quickly pick up essential ukulele skills. Within just a lesson or two, they’ll be able to play one of their favorite songs in its entirety and we can teach using any musical style or genre your child enjoys.
Your monthly tuition includes weekly, one-hour private Aliso Viejo ukulele lessons with an experienced instructor. In addition to providing ukulele lessons for Aliso Viejo teens and kids, we also can teach guitar, drums, piano & keyboards, saxophone and much more, including vocal instruction. If your child wants to expand their musical repertoire, they are welcome to split their lessons into two parts and spend half of their time learning ukulele skills and the rest learning piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, drums, voice lessons or something else.
The Live Program
In addition to weekly private Aliso Viejo ukulele lessons, the monthly tuition also includes participation in our unique Live Program. We don’t want our students to just learn how to play ukulele, we want them to learn how to perform and get out there on stage as soon as possible, which is why we’ve developed this program.
We divide students into groups, based upon ability, and these groups meet weekly to create set lists, practice songs and prepare for our live rock shows. These shows, which take place throughout the year, are held at top local venues such as the House of Blues and the Coach House, to name a few.
Some of the live shows incorporate a mix of musical styles, including original compositions written by rock school students. For these shows, the students provide all of the instrumentation as well as all of the vocals. They also can help set for the show so that they can truly experience what it’s like to be in a professional band. Our facility is stocked with the highest quality new and vintage gear, and the kids can use it all!
Other live shows include a special theme. For instance, our students have created, produced and performed original Halloween and Christmas-themed concerts. We also invite our most experienced students to audition for our Classic Rock Series. For these concerts, we perform a classic album in its entirety. In the past, we’ve covered The Beatles’ Abbey Road, Queen’s A Day at the Races and Michael Jackson’s Thriller and several others.
Additional Classes
Our facility includes two professional recording studios, one of which was designed by a Grammy Award-winning producer. We offer songwriting and production classes, where students can learn to compose as well as produce their own original music. In fact, several of our student bands, as well as some of our instructors, have produced albums in our production studios.
We also offer our advanced students an AP Music Theory class. This class is taught by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition, and will prepare these high school-aged students for the rigorous AP Music Theory exam, which is taken in the spring.
