Unique Lessons
At Los Rios Rock School, we believe that learning should be fun and engaging, which is why we teach using a performance-based, song-based approach. This means that we teach Aliso Viejo rock school students how to play an instrument using their favorite songs and favorite styles or genres of music. Within just a few lessons, a student will be able to perform a complete song, and not just a basic number such as “Hot Cross Buns,” but a song by The Beatles, U2, Bruno Mars, Led Zeppelin, Taylor Swift or any other artist your child or teen admires.
Our instructors can teach using any genre of music, including, but not limited to pop, rock, blues, country, R&B, jazz, rockabilly and beyond. Additionally, we offer instruction for virtually any instrument including electric guitar, bass guitar, acoustic guitar, banjo, ukulele, drums, organ, keyboards & piano, flute, saxophone and more. The monthly tuition includes a private, 60-minute lesson each week. Aliso Viejo rock school students can spend their hour learning one instrument or perhaps concentrating on two areas, such as drums and vocal performance or perhaps piano and guitar, basically whatever combination they wish.
Group Rehearsals & Live Shows
At Los Rios Rock School, Aliso Viejo rock school students do more than simply learn to play an instrument. Our students regularly perform at top venues such as the Coach House, Stillwater and the House of Blues and our own private stage, The Lobby. The live shows as well as the weekly private lessons are included in the monthly tuition.
Currently our live performance program includes more than 10 groups with about 15 to 20 students per group. Aliso Viejo rock school students are organized by ability level and practice during weekly rehearsals. The students collaborate to create set lists, sometimes including original songs written by our students, and rehearse in one of our three live rooms. These rooms are stocked with top-of-the-line professional equipment and gear and we let the kids learn how to use it all.
After weeks of private lessons and group rehearsals, it all comes to together at our live shows. Sometimes the student groups will perform a wide variety of musical genres and artists and sometimes they will select a specific theme. For our advanced students, there is an opportunity to also audition for our classic album series, where Aliso Viejo rock school students perform a renowned album in its entirety, such as Queen’s A Day at the Races or The Beatles’ Abbey Road.
Above & Beyond
While your month tuition includes private lessons, weekly group jam sessions and live shows, that’s not all that we offer at Los Rios Rock School. At our rock school for Aliso Viejo kids and teens we also offer an Artist Program for budding songwriters and producers. Our facility includes two professional recording studios, which provides students with the opportunity to not only record their own original music, but also to learn how to write and produce their music like a pro. All of our instructors are in working bands that have produced albums, and these instructors can share their experiences and provide practical advice.
At Los Rios Rock School, we also offer an AP Music Theory class for our advanced musicians. This class prepares of Aliso Viejo rock school students for the rigorous AP Music Theory exam and is led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in music composition.
Beyond the classes, we also host several Summer Rock Camps each year. This includes beginner camps geared to our musicians with less experience and advanced camps for students that have been part of our live program for a while.
