Our Lessons
Too often, students give up on music lessons because they are dull and uninspiring. We believe that music is something to get excited about, and we believe that music lessons should be fun, engaging and inspiring. While you do have to work hard to be a great singer, but there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy this work. To keep kids excited about their Irvine vocal lessons, we teach students using the music that they love. Our instructors can help your child expand his or her vocal range and improve vocal quality and tone using virtually any genre of music. If you child loves rock, pop, country, blues or something else, we will teach using whatever styles interest them.
Many music schools and private instructors only offer 30-minute or perhaps 45-minute lessons, but at Los Rios Rock School, our tuition includes a weekly, private 60-minute lesson. Students who also wish to learn an instrument can split their lessons into two sections and spend half of the time with vocal instruction and the remainder on instrumental music. In addition to Irvine vocal lessons, our instructors can teach a wide variety of instruments including drums, guitar, piano, keyboards, flute, saxophone, trumpet and more.
Live Performances
Of course, what fun would voice lessons be if you aren’t able to get up on stage and show off your skills? We believe that live performances should be an essential component of music education, so we provide our students with many opportunities to perform on stage. Our shows, which are held between six and 12 times per year, are presented at some of the best music venues in Orange County including the Coach House, Stillwater and the House of Blues.
Your monthly tuition includes your weekly private lesson as well as participation in our Live Program. In this program, we organize the students into groups based upon their ability levels. The students create set lists, practice songs during weekly jam sessions and then perform live several times per year. During the shows, students perform all of the vocals as well as playing the majority of the instruments. Some of our shows include a variety of songs, while others feature a special theme, such as our Classic Album Series. For these concerts, students perform all of the songs from a renowned album. In the past, we covered The Beatles’ Abbey Road, Led Zeppelin II and Queen’s A Day at the Races.
Special Extras
In addition to the Irvine vocal lessons and our live program, we also offer classes for budding songwriters and producers. Our facility includes a full professional analog recording studio, as well as a secondary digital studio. Students in these classes learn the fundamentals of songwriting as well as learning how to produce their own original tunes.
For our most advanced music students, we also offer an AP Music Theory class. We are an accredited music school, and this class is led by a teacher with a Ph.D. in Music Composition. During this class, students prepare for the AP Music Theory exam, which is taken each year in the spring.
