If your child is taking Mission Viejo piano lessons, but they seem bored or frustrated with their lessons, it might be time to make a switch to something a bit more out of the ordinary. At Los Rios Rock School, we strive to provide our students with a unique experience that generates enthusiasm for the process of learning how to play a musical instrument.
Our Lessons
While learning how to play the piano does require patience and practice, there’s no rule that this “practice” has to be boring. Too often, students are taught using music they don’t really like, such as nursery songs and the dreaded “Hot Cross Buns.” We find that students are far more enthusiastic about lessons and practicing if they learn using music that they love. Within just a few lessons at Los Rios Rock School, your child or teen will be able to play a favorite song in its entirety. We can teach students using any genre the love from classic rock to classical and everything in between.
In addition, our Mission Viejo piano lessons are longer than what you typically find at other local music schools. Generally, music lessons are about 30 to 45 minutes, but we find that an hour is a more effective amount of time. Your tuition includes a private weekly 60-minute lesson with one of our experienced instructors. If your child wishes to learn an additional instrument, such as guitar or drums or perhaps vocal instruction, they are welcome to split the lesson into two halves and spend half on piano and the rest on another instrument or voice.
The Live Program
Of course, what would be the fun of learning how to play all of these great songs if you didn’t get to show it off a bit? In addition to Mission Viejo piano lessons, your monthly tuition also includes participation in our Live Program. For this program, we divide the students into groups (typically based upon ability and experience), create set lists, practice during weekly jam sessions and then perform several times each year at some of Orange County’s best music venues. We’ve held shows at Stillwater, the Coach House, the House of Blues and the Fonda Theater to name a few.
Some shows include a mix of styles from classic and contemporary artists, while other shows have a set theme. The students perform all of the vocals and most or all of the instrumentation, and they can even help set up. Our facility includes the latest and greatest gear as well as some cool vintage gear, and the students can use it all!
Additional Classes & Camps
We also offer more than performances and piano lessons for Mission Viejo kids and teens. If your child is a budding songwriter or producer, we have classes and workshops to help young artists develop those skills. Our facility includes two professional recording studios, where we have helped students produce their own original music. We also offer an AP Music Theory class led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition, as well as several fun summer camps. Above the coursework and camps, our music school is a place where students forge lasting friendships and enjoy an encouraging and inclusive environment.
