However, not all vocal lessons are created equal. Too often, music lessons tend to be dull and uninspiring. If this is the case, the child loses enthusiasm and the parent wastes hard-earned money and time. At Los Rios Rock School, we design music curriculum that keeps kids and teens interested and engaged. Our experience is unique, and students not only enjoy lessons and practicing, they also have many opportunities to showcase their skills up on stage. The Lessons
Your monthly tuition includes a weekly one-hour lesson with an expert vocal instructor. Many schools and private teachers offer only 30-minute or 45-minute lessons, but we believe that a full hour is a more beneficial amount of time. We have six vocal instructors here at Los Rios Rock School that can help your child or teen improve vocal range and tone as well as working on performance skills. We teach using songs and styles of music that your child truly enjoys, and we believe that using songs students love inspires them to worker harder and practice more, which means their vocal ability will improve more quickly.
In addition to vocal instruction, your child or teen also is welcome to split their lesson into two parts and spend half of their time on voice and the other half on an instrument. Our instructors can teach all types of guitar, piano & keyboards, drums, saxophone, flute, clarinet and much more. Our facility is stocked with top-quality professional and vintage gear, and the students get to use it all. For instance, your child can spend half of their lesson singing in one of our professional studios and the other half rocking out on the same drum kit or guitar that their favorite musicians use.
The Live Shows
Of course, all of the lessons and practicing is just preamble to the real fun, the live rock shows. Several times during the year, students display their skills at live shows, and these shows take place at some of Orange County’s top music venues such as the House of Blues and the Coach House. During these shows, students perform all the vocals as well as handling all the instruments. Students can even help set up for shows and learn how to use the same performance equipment as professional musicians use.
In preparation for the live shows, we organize the students into groups based upon ability. These groups meet for weekly rehearsals where they create and practice set lists in preparation for the live performances. Sometimes the set lists include a mix of songs chosen by the students and other times, the set list has a special theme. Our advanced students are welcome to try out for our Classic Album Series, which are concerts where students perform all of the songs from a renowned classic album such as The Beatles’ Abbey Road or Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours.
Best of all, everything is included in your monthly tuition. The lessons, the weekly practice sessions and the live performance opportunities are all part of the monthly fees.
Extra Offerings
We do offer several special classes, in addition to the weekly lessons and Live Program. For instance, we have songwriting workshops for students who wish to learn how to write and record their own original music. Our facility includes two state-of-the-art recording studios, including a full professional analog recording studio and a secondary digital studio. We have helped many students record their own original music, and our instructors have been in bands that have created and produced their own original albums.
For advanced music students, we offer an AP Music Theory class. This course, led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in Music Composition will provide your teen with all they need to know in order to take the AP Music Theory exam.
