There is plenty of evidence out there to suggest learning how to play a musical instrument can improve academic skills, improve discipline and even boosts self-esteem. It doesn’t really matter what type of instrument a child or teen plays, the benefits are similar across the board. At our rock school for Laguna Niguel children and teens, we provide musical education with a unique twist.
Song-Based & Performance-Based Music Lessons
At Los Rios Rock School, our philosophy is that people learn how to play an instrument more quickly and enjoy the process more when they practice using music they truly love. Rather than begin with basic scales and songs such as “Hot Cross Buns,” at our rock school for Laguna Niguel, students learn to play complete songs by their favorite artists.
Your monthly tuition at our Laguna Niguel rock school includes a weekly 60-minute lesson led by a professional instructor. While we can teach your child or teen to play virtually any instrument, we focus on instruments such as guitar, bass, acoustic guitar, piano and keyboards, drums and, of course, voice lessons.
Laguna Niguel rock school students are welcome to split their lesson into two parts. A student might spend half of their lesson working on guitar instruction and the other half on the piano. Or perhaps you would prefer to split a lesson with vocal instruction and guitar instruction. It’s all up to the students. If your child plays an instrument at school, such as saxophone, clarinet, trumpet or flute, you also could split a lesson between clarinet and guitar or sax and vocal lessons.
In addition to being able to teach just about any instrument at our rock school for Laguna Niguel students, our instructors also can teach your child or teen using any genre of music that they love. This includes rock, pop, country, soul, bluegrass, rockabilly, punk, rhythm & blues and much more. Our goal is to provide each and every student with a fun, engaging music experience.
Enjoy Much More Than Lessons
But, wait, there’s more! In addition to your hourly lesson each week, the tuition at our rock school for Laguna Niguel students also includes a genuine rock band experience. We place students in bands or groups based upon experience and ability, practice set lists during weekly jam sessions and perform at top live venues such as the House of Blues, Stillwater, the Coach House and many more.
Live rock shows are held several times throughout the year, and students work together to select set lists. In addition to live shows featuring songs from a variety of artists (including songs written by our own Los Rios Rock School students), we also host a few theme rock shows during the year. In the past, we’ve had holiday rock shows, a Led Zeppelin show and a show honoring the Beatles Abbey Road album.
Our performance and production equipment includes top-of-line new and vintage equipment, and the kids get to use it all! We want them to have a true, professional-level rock band experience every time they hit the stage.
Beyond Lessons & Shows
We offer much more at our rock school. Laguna Niguel students also can take songwriting classes, production classes and we also offer AP Music Theory classes to prepare our advanced students to take the AP Music Theory exam. The latter class is taught by an instructor with a Ph.D. in music composition. All of our instructors are also professional musicians in working bands that have produced albums. They can share their experiences regarding live performances, songwriting and production.
In addition, we offer special summer camps and host events such as Halloween parties and album launch events. Some of our students have formed their own bands outside of the rock school, recorded albums and performed live at special rock school shows.
