The Weekly Lessons
We have several instructors at Los Rios Rock School that specialize in providing drum lessons, however, most of our expert instructors can teach multiple instruments. Our lessons also are quite flexible, and many students choose to split their lesson and spend each half working on a different instrument. The Practice Sessions
After a few weeks of Rancho Santa Margarita drum lessons, it will be time for your teen or child to begin preparing for our live rock shows. We organize the students into groups based upon ability and the students and instructors work together to create set lists filled with music the students love. Sometimes, we even include original songs written by our Los Rios Rock School students. For our advanced students, we also create special theme shows based on classic albums. For instance, during one recent concert, students performed all of the songs from the Beatles’ famed Abbey Road album.
Once your child or teenager has been placed in one of our groups, he or she will attend a weekly practice/jam session with other student musicians. Not only will these weekly sessions prepare them for our live shows, it is an excellent opportunity for them to make new friends. In this way, we offer much more than just drum lessons in Rancho Santa Margarita.
The Show
After a few weeks of practice, the groups will be ready for their live shows. These are held about 10 times per year at local venues as well as The Lobby, our private stage at Los Rios Rock School. These live shows allow students to show off the skills they have learned during their Rancho Santa Margarita drum lessons.
Our state-of-the-art facility is stocked with the best professional new and vintage gear and the students can use it all! For students taking Rancho Santa Margarita drum lessons, this includes using our DW Collectors Series drum sets. These are the same drums that are used by some of the best drummers in the world, including Neil Peart, Scott Travis, Nick Mason and Dave Grohl. We want our students to use the best possible equipment, so we continuously add new equipment to the mix.
Additional Offerings
Beyond the Ranch Santa Margarita drum lessons and live shows, we also have a few specialized programs. For students interesting in songwriting and production, we offer classes and workshops that help students learn how to write and produce their own original songs and albums. All of our instructors are in bands that have produced albums and have plenty of writing, production and performance experience which they can use to teach students.
For our most advanced music students, we have music theory classes, including an AP Music Theory class. This offering, led by an instructor with a Ph.D. in music composition, prepares students for the rigorous AP Music Theory exam.
